Studio Exercise 2 - Paper Folding
The following images are of tower-like structures featuring Islamic onion-shaped domes. Hundertwasser uses these shapes to give the colour and majestic grandeur to the occupants' lives. The golden dome features in many of his design concepts.

In the following images of paper-folded forms, I attempted to recreate Hundertwasser's onion-shaped domes using the "scrunching paper" technique. I then placed it onto a cylindrical rolled paper within another larger cylinder base, with smaller cylinders attached to the top section to recreate one of Hundertwasser's towers.

Research Exercise 1: Design Influence
Friedensreich Hundertwasser
Motorway Restaurant, Bad Fischau, Lower Austria, 1989-1990
This was an existing boring looking cube like structure (built in the 70's) and redesigned by Hundertwasser. What interests me about this building and other Hundertwasser designs is the ''green roof '' which is an environmentally sustainable alternative to most typical roof designs. It cools the building, reduces costs (heating and air-conditioning ), absorbs rain water minimising run-off, offers an appealing natural look to the building, improves air quality, reduces noise and increases biodiversity. I also find Hundertwasser's choice and variety of material's and colours appealing.
