Research Exercise 1: Design Influence

Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Motorway Restaurant, Bad Fischau, Lower Austria, 1989-1990

This was an existing boring looking cube like structure (built in the 70's) and redesigned by Hundertwasser. What interests me about this building and other Hundertwasser designs is the ''green roof '' which is an environmentally sustainable alternative to most typical roof designs. It cools the building, reduces costs (heating and air-conditioning ), absorbs rain water minimising run-off, offers an appealing natural look to the building, improves air quality, reduces noise and increases biodiversity. I also find Hundertwasser's choice and variety of material's and colours appealing.
